Papers, 1924-1992 (bulk 1945-1975).

The bulk of the collection documents K. Wood's career in social services in New Mexico. The collection contains correspondence, clippings, publications, reports, brochures, legislation, and notes. Aging includes states, federal, and general materials pertaining to committees, commissions, conferences on aging, as well as legislation, programs, resources, and services. Vision, Hearing, Speech consists largely of materials pertaining to school testing, with general information as well as data specific to Hobbs and Gallup public schools, the Santa Fe Indian School, and the Intermountain Indian School (UT). This section also contains general materials, class notes, and information about rehabilitation and handicapped programs. K.'s involvement with the New Mexico State Reorganization Committee and with various social programs in New Mexico is documented in the section, Public Health and Welfare. The Youth, Juvenile Affairs, Recreation, Criminology section deals with the problems of youth and juvenile delinquency, as well as clippings about crime and materials about the New Mexico State Penitentiary. Personal/Personnel includes biographical information, employment-related correspondence and records, and research and correspondence relating to Wood's educational endeavors.

Dorothy I. Cline was Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Government (1946-1971). She was politically active on the state and national levels. She served as chairman of the Bernalillo Commission (1958-1960), a member of the Governor's Committee of 100 on Aging, a public member of the Adivsory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (Washington D.C.), and on several committees for the 1969 New Mexico Constitutional Convention. Wood, K. (Katherine), 1905-1994

Katherine Wood, known as "K." was born in Chicago, Ill. in 1905. Prior to moving to New Mexico in 1934, she held various positions in the social services arena. Her career in New Mexico continued to focus on public welfare and social services. K., along with Dorothy Cline was appointed to the Governor's Advisory committee on Recreation in 1956.
